1) Add extension to Chrome

Installing a browser extension is an easy way to block YouTube and prevent yourself and your children from accessing YouTube. Here’s how to block YouTube using a Chrome extension.

Open Google Chrome browser on your computer.
Go to the Block Site add-on page on the Chrome Store. This add-on has the function of blocking any website you want.
Click the Add to Chrome button at the top of the screen to install the extension on the browser.

Then from the pop-up window, tap on Add extension.

Go to the extensions bar next to the address bar at the top of the screen, and then click Block Site icon.

Press Agree.

Click the gear icon at the top of the window to go to the extension settings.

You will find a rectangle field, write the YouTube link youtube.com in it, then press the Add item button.

Then you notice that YouTube has been added to the blacklist or ban list, and therefore you cannot access YouTube now. If you try to open YouTube, you will redirect forcibly another page related to Block Site extension.

You can at any time unblock YouTube by going to the extension’s settings as mentioned above, then clicking the recycle icon next to YouTube URL to unblock.

2) block youtube using router settings

I think most of us prefer to use this method. Block YouTube from the router leads to blocking YouTube from all connected devices on the network, including computers, mobile phones, and tablets.

Open any web browser on your device.
Enter the router’s IP address, usually 192.168.1.1.
Enter the username and password to log in, you will find this data written on the back of the router Username and Password.
Assuming you are now already logged into your router settings page, look for the Filter URL or Block Websites option.
Add the YouTube URL to the blacklist.
It is better to restart the router to ensure that the changes have already been saved. To restart the router, search for the Restart or Reboot option.

If you go to URL Filter option, and add only youtube.com, it blocks YouTube on computers only, while mobile phones can access YouTube at the same time. If you don’t know the IP address of your router, I recommend install Network analyzer from google play store. Then Open the app. You will find the IP address of router beside Default Gateway IP field.

If you want to block YouTube on Android phones or iPhones, you can do so by editing your phone settings.

1) block youtube on iphone or ipad

Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
Go to Screen Time.
Go to Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Go to Content Restrictions.
Tap Web Content.

Enable Limit Adult Content.
Then Below Never Allow section, Click on Add Website.

Add youtube URL. You should add all Youtube Domains as we listed above. and hit Done.

2) block youtube on Android

Open Google Play Store.
Install CX File Explorer.
Then Click Open.
Then Click Next.

Enable Next to Allow access to manage all files permission.
Then toggle the switch.

Click on vertical three dots from the sidebar.
Click on Settings.
Scroll down, Enable Display system storage.

Return to the app’s home page, Then Click on System.
Go to etc Folder.
Look for hosts file and Click on it.

Then Open with Text.
Select Text Editor. then Click on Once Only.
Type this line
- 127.0.0.1 www.youtube.com

Then sequentially add all the YouTube domains to make sure that the YouTube app is also blocked and not just the YouTube website. (All YouTube domains are already listed above). Finally, click on the save icon at the top.

Reboot your phone. It should now be assumed that YouTube is blocked on your mobile phone, and you cannot access it.

Enable Restricted Mode

There is a helpful option worth talking about, YouTube that allows you to restrict access to porn or inappropriate content. You can enable this option on your child’s phone. Apply the following steps:-

Open Youtube app on your Phone or your child’s phone.
